Dolphin Watching Cruises from the Virginia Aquarium
The days of summer may be winding down, but the Virginia Aquarium is offering a cruise to view the majestic bottlenose dolphins that offers to extend those sunny days.
Bottlenose dolphins live in groups called pods that typically number about 12 dolphins, but group size varies from solitary bottlenose dolphins up to groups of over 100 or even more. The bottlenose dolphin’s diet consists mainly of small fish and squid. Although the diet varies by region, certain preferences are shared among much of the population. Such preferences include fish from the mullet, mackerel, tuna, and croaker, and drum families. The peak season for dolphins in the Virginia Beach area is from June thru September. The cruise will last 90 minutes. An experienced educator will be your guide as well as teacher; in introducing you to our most “interesting “seasonal guest. Please don’t forget to bring your cameras to capture the moment but to savor the memory of this once in a life-time adventure.
