Memorial Day
May 22, 2009

It’s going to be a stellar weekend in Virginia Beach as the city hosts two Memorial Day festivals sure to start the summer off right.
The festivities get rolling on the evening of Friday May 22, 2009 as vendors and BBQ experts take to the Boardwalk to kick off the 2009 Great American Backyard BBQ. Get a belly full of BBQ and enjoy sand and sun all weekend as the Beach is home to the likes of Beach Smokehouse, Country Boys BBQ, Cutlass Grille, Fiesta Chicken and Sticky Bones BBQ. Locally and nationally acclaimed musicians will be taking over the three main Boardwalk stages at 17th, 24th and 31st Street parks with foot-stompin’ country and the soulful sound of the blues. Free music and tasty food make this a family event that is sure to please everyone!
As if BBQ and the blues wasn’t enough to tempt you from weekend yard duty, Pungo Strawberry Festival 2009 comes to the Festival Grounds at 1776 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach. This celebration of Virginia’s farming heritage is full to the brim with live music, exhibitions, pig racing, dog shows, and of course… PIE EATTING CONTESTS!! In its’ 26th year the Strawberry Festival draws 120,000 attendees or more to this annual favorite.
