Virginia Beach Fishing

The Billfish Tournament has been a tradition in Virginia Beach for quite some time. In 2009, 89 boats entered the contest and a grand prize of $123,000 was given away to contest winners. The latest 2010 tournament took place from the days of August 18-August 21. Along with the fishing contests, good food and refreshments were shared with the crowds.

What were the results from the latest Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament 2010? One hundred and eighty-eight billfish were released. Of the total, 170 were white marlin, while 12 were blue marlin. Other fish caught included three sailfish and three spearfish. There were five boats that claimed top honors including Gee Daddy, Sea Toy, Caroline, Triflin and Point Rinner. Gee Daddy had stats of seven white marlin and two sailfish for 630 pts. Sea Toy caught nine white marlin for 630 points.

The top dolphin prize went to Juggernaut and Jack Owens, with a catch of 38.6 pounds. The top tuna prize went to Outer Limits and Peter McCambridge with a catch of 68.4 pounds. The top wahoo prize went to Triflin and Allen Palmer with a catch of 52.0 lbs. For junior angling, the prize went to Points North and Danielle Michael with two white marlin and 140 pts. The top lady and top overall angler went to Smoker and Heather Brennan with 5 white marlin and 350 pts.

In total 69 boats were released. Stanton Partners hosted the event and Outback Steakhouse made sure everyone was fed a hearty meal. $355,000 was given away in cash awards. The company posted some pictures of the tournament on their official Face Book page. This is one of the Virginia Beach’s most popular events, as their Face Book page has 496 people fans.

One of the best features of Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament 2010 is that the board members try to give back to the community. The organization worked with notable youth groups like Children’s Performance Workshops, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and D.A.R.E. The organization also supports two groups that help to maintain and protect natural resources and oceans; they are the Recreational Fishing Alliance and The Billfish Foundation.
