The Center for Gifted Education at the College of William and Mary has exciting news! It’s not too late to register for the 2010 Professional Summer Institute, to be held June 23-25.

The purpose of this institute is to provide teachers and administrators with the knowledge and skills needed to design and implement high quality curriculum within programs for advanced learners. Each strand of the Institute promotes the standards of excellence, which includes, integrating higher order thinking skills into curriculum and instruction, developing interdisciplinary concepts, developing high level content applications, and developing effective classroom assessments for gifted learners.

The Institute has been designed to meet the needs of gifted program coordinators, other district and building-level administrators, teachers of the gifted, and all classroom teachers who want to enhance their ability to effectively differentiate instruction for high ability learners.

Institute participants will choose one of seven strands which relate to the frameworks and models that have been used at William and Mary for over 17 years in the development of our nationally and internationally acclaimed curriculum.

Strands draw on existing research and evidence of effective practices. Three of the strands are workshops on implementing the Center's curriculum units in language arts, science, or social studies. The remaining strands will assist teachers and administrators in improving instruction, services, and programs provided to high ability learners. To register for the conference or for more information please visit http://cfge.wm.edu/about.htm or call 757-221-2362.
