Monsters on the Beach

On May 8-10, 2009, the rumbling on the oceanfront in Virginia Beach will not be from just the waves, but the monster trucks taking a spin in the sand. The Monsters on the Beach Event brings thrills and chills to the Virginia Beach oceanfront as Monster Trucks battle for ultimate sand domination! This family-targeted event is loud, fast, and exciting. A course is built right on the beach at 6th Street, with bleachers overlooking from the boardwalk. Sand dunes and junk cars combine to make the race course fast and fun for drivers and spectators alike.

Trucks to visit the beach this year include Stone Crusher, Gunslinger, War Wizard, Megasaurus, and locals’ favorite, Grave Digger. Monster truck rides, offered for a nominal fee, are a big hit with the young and the young-at-heart. A smaller, less-threatening course is built on the beach at 4th Street, and rides are offered continually throughout the weekend, even at night!

Locals are invited to participate in the Tough Truck Competition, where drivers tackle the same track used by the big monster trucks. Tough Truck races are held in-between the regular monster truck heats, with trophies and cash prizes awarded.
