32 Killed In VT Shooting

Quote:
BLACKSBURG, Va. (April 16) - A gunman opened fire in a dorm and classroom at Virginia Tech on Monday, killing at least 30 people in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history, government officials told The Associated Press. The gunman was killed, bringing to death toll to 31, but it was unclear if he was shot by police or took his own life.

"Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," said Virginia Tech president Charles Steger. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified." The bloodbath took place at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus, beginning at about 7:15 a.m
This is ridiculous. First of all the beginning shooting occured at 7am.......two hours later another occurs killing the majority of the students? How do people let this happen? It was completely avoidable with college officials and local authorities. Cops should have been swarming that place and it should have been on lock-down the second the dorm shooting happened. It doesn't matter whether the doors would be auto-locked, a siren, or a message over the PA, just something reasonable that is affordable to the campus letting everyone know.

And the "tradgedy" email that was sent....wtf is tragedy? Did some old woman fall down the elevator shaft that involves one person's tragedy or is everyone's life in danger? A shooting on campus isn't going to cause mass chaos and there's no need to censor what is truely happening. These are young adults who can think for themselves. They really only have two choices, barricade or get off campus...both rational escapes. If no one lets them know, aka school officials, then this stuff happens. I think some of VT's officials need to go.
