More surveillance cameras

HOUSTON -- Houston's police chief on Wednesday proposed placing surveillance cameras in apartment complexes, downtown streets, shopping malls and even private homes to fight crime during a shortage of police officers.

"I know a lot of people are concerned about Big Brother, but my response to that is, if you are not doing anything wrong, why should you worry about it?" Chief Harold Hurtt told reporters Wednesday at a regular briefing.

Houston is facing a severe police shortage because of too many retirements and too few recruits, and the city has absorbed 150,000 hurricane evacuees who are filling apartment complexes in crime-ridden neighborhoods. The City Council is considering a public safety tax to pay for more officers.

No more freakin cameras! And by the way, the Katrina "victims" can return home anytime now. Our crime rate has increased significantly since they arrived. Time to boot their butts back to Nagin.

Cameras are popping up out here like weeds.

Freeways are all wired with cameras ever mile and photo radar every mile.

This fascist crap really pisses me off.

I kinda wish some cameras were on the street where my parents live.

Someone rammed their house with a car and then drove off. They went right through the bricks and into the living room.

Luckily, my folks weren't hurt.

Whoever did it is still free [just drive off after hitting the house]. The police were never able to catch them.

None of the neighbors saw anything? That's incredible.

Were, your folks home at the time? I've seen a lot of these types of accidents on the news. It usually involves an elderly person who got confused and hit the gas instead of the break.

Which bring me to ask a question. Sorry for getting off topic but I've noticed that there have been many studies done on teenage drivers and accidents. Why don't they do a study on how many accidents were caused by confused elderly drivers? I think the stats would be just as alarming.
