Islam mad at the pope

The pope was quoting this text from something that was written hundreds of years ago. He never said he agreed or disagreed with it. Now all of the Islamic world is in an uproar, and they'll most likely start killing westerners for it.

Could that be a prime example of spreading their faith by the sword?
