Joe Davis

A great friend has been lost. In loving memory of him, and in order to get most of us informed, we have created this forum.

Here are the latest pics I had of Big Joe and my favorite with him and Aerosmith.

We're still waiting for more information on what happened. We'll post it here as we find out. If you find out before us, please let us know.

I miss you Joe. You will always be in my heart and mind.

Steve

Words always seem too feeble a way to express a feeling about death, so I won't attempt that, but I will speak about Joe's life. Without a doubt he was one of the most vibrant and lively people I've ever had the pleasure to know. Joe the gentle giant of a man both in size and spirit.

I will remember our times at VisiNet well (and for anyone who spent any real time at that place, you'll know that's saying something), catching "Napoleon Dynamite" at the Naro with him, and of course imbibing while enjoying some raucous humor over a pie at Cogan's.

He was a gentleman of an unmatched character.

Joe, to all the times we had, and how no amount would have ever been enough. All the love and the respect to a great friend with an amazing soul.

Well how about that ... a purple t-shirt ... classic Joe Davis right there.

These pics bring a smile to my face and make me feel worse, both at the same time.

It's funny how we are having so many of the same thoughts and saying the same things.

For the last 48 or so hours I have said many times, outloud to myself ...

"Damn it, Joe."

Joe

Like everyone else that knew Joe, I've done the Joe flashback in my head the past couple of days. When you can look back at a friend and never have a sad memory, that says alot, Joe was like that I'm sure to many people. He was truly down for whatever was going on. I think when I first met him he struck me as someone that just wanted to be liked, well guess what buddy, many people not only liked you, but they loved you, and we will all miss you. I have a daughter who is 4, and loves purple, somehow now, I will think of Joe when she mentions purple. I'll never forget you Joe, all the memories of poker, movies, the BBS days, playing basketball, and just being someone who was fun to hang out with, they will all be cherished.

Dave

Hey all,

Just keeping people in the loop. Joe's Mom is planning the memorial for next Friday at 1pm tentatively in Hampton.
His mom's number is 757-827-XXXX or 757-722-XXXX if you wish to offer your condolances. Her name is Marie Rose Davis.

E-mail or private message me for the number. I didn't want to post it in a public forum.

Joe had so many close friends that it always felt like an honor to hang out with him and it was always fun. Like someone else said, all the memories are happy ones. Here are some photos from the last few years.

Lean into it Joe!

I'm sure it's the same with all of us, but every day, every decision I make is different. Joe was humble inspiration; one of the few good guys left.

I remember after I first met him, I loaned him my old Amiga 500, because he didn't have a computer. Little did I know he was going to use it to spend hours a day building up a Tele-Arena character, just to end up making a Tower run, and get wacked by DK in waiting, sent back to the Temple to do it all over again. Month in, month out.

Every week we'd head over to the house in Hampton for 12 hours of "two towers" poker. Joe always had a smile, win or lose.

One of my favorite memories of Joe was witnessed by some of you as well. At the Norfolk apartment of myself and Mongo, when we'd all gather for parties, or just hanging out, usually the group would divide into the front room and back room. In the back room, the computer playing was taking place, and in the front room was either some TV watching or Nintendo playing. Who remembers being in the front room, and looking back into the back room, seeing Joe sitting in the computer chair, playing a racing game, and "leaning" into the turns? Makes me laugh out loud just thinking about it. The trait continued, of course, during every incarnation of Mario Kart.

Joe brought joy into the lives of every single person he was in contact with. Hard to find anyone else you can say that about. An amazing man has been lost.
