I like Virginia Beach a lot because of the ocean for one. I love when I first turn on to atlantic ave and see all the people and I just get this beach feeling, I don't know how to explain it exactly but it makes me feel really happy. I love going out on the strip at night and after the bars/clubs close going with my friends to sit on the shore and stay out until the sun begins to rise. Its so beautiful! I like the restaurants, the buffets with blue crab on them, Dough boys, the haunted house that I have been in so many times but it still scares me. I really like renting a bike and riding it on the bike path (or on the boardwalk if its off season and there arent many people out) and looking over at the ocean as I ride. The last time I did this me and my boyfriend tried to hold hands as we rode but he quickly messed that up by almost riding his bike over mine. I like sitting on the boardwalk people watching with my little sister, we do this from the balcony of our room too. I love the museum and the IMAX theatre thats not very far from the ocean front. I could probably say more..I'll sum it all up with I just love VA beach! Thats why I visit as often as possible even when its cold out.

I LOVE virginia beach for many reasons. First, the beach. There is NOTHING absolutely like the beach here. Second, the atmosphere! Thirdly, the food, museums and the excitement it brings! BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY is this story.

This summer will be our (my wife and I) third trip here. The first time was three years ago. We stayed for four days at the RAMADA LIMITED. It was a beautiful experience as we sat by our balcony, watching the crashing waves of the beach and staring at the occasional overhead airplanes under the full moon, while sipping champagne. This was where Maxine and I fell in love all over again! It was our second year wedding anniversary. Over the last couple of years in our marriage, we had been quite busy, taking each other for granted, busily working and living separate lives. It was an unbelievable three day weekend, where for the FIRST TIME we had breakfast at Mahi Maui (forgive the misspelling) on the beach, partied at the local caribbean club and also relaxed in each other's arms watching the free concert on the grass!

The second time was this past summer. It was even MORE SPECIAL! Since our marriage, my wife and I have been desperately trying to have a child (I believe this was the reason why we ignored each other). We were unsuccessful for three years, until October, 2003. Our daughter, Nadia had the most memorable time with me as we spent the entire day by the beach, sitting and playing in the sand (I had'nt done that since I was a child myself) as the rough waves kept hitting us, sometimes bowling us over! (Hurricane Rita was close by) Until this day, my daughter still talks incessantly about Virginis Beach. I KNOW this will be her first and earlist memory; playing in sand with her daddy at VIRGINIA BEACH! Because of this, it brings tears to my eyes! Luckily, my wife has our entire trip taped.

As for me, being at the beach, VIRGINIA BEACH is a kind of healing. You see, as a child, I rarely ever went to the beach with my father and the one ocassion that I remembered was a traumatic one for me. I was only four years old. This year, my Nadia will be three. My wife, daughter and I cannot wait to be back again this summer. This is a now a tradition for us!

Thanks VIRGINIA BEACH for the continuing and wonderful experience.

Robert Guthrie

From Seashore State Park to Sandbridge.

The span along our oceanfront is one of the nation's richest in the country, when it comes to nature. From Fort Story to the Great Dismal Swamp, there's a diverse community, growing in numbers. It's nice to have been here since 1994 because I've seen, and been affected by, the changes which include a new connection to General Booth from Oceana Blvd. and the destruction of the pier at the arrival of Hurricane Isabel.

Even outside of Harris Teeter, I see the "new" Virginia Beach taking shape, as from it's sliding glass doors, my view of Laskin Rd is now blocked by two very huge structures they are currently putting up. And on the other side of Arctic Ave., new condominiums have just been built, so it's a brand-new view just walking out of Harris Teeter.

The people of Virginia Beach seem different than other Virginians, as they are more likely to come from other states to thrive on the new business world here.

Interstate 264 (44, or the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway) is like the road to paradise. Especially, coming off of routes 58 and 460. I won't mention the seventh (or eighth) architectural wonder of the world.

Fell in Love

We visited the beach Aug '05 for the first time and fell in love. Everyone is so friendly and, we actually swam in the ocean with the dolphins. Actually we have decided to move to Virginia Beach this July '06 we love it so much! It is so clean and there is so much to see and do. Dianna Shank

Thanks So Much

We are just going to rent to begin with until we get our feet wet, so to speak, to make sure of what area we want to settle in. When we came down last August, we stay right in Virginia Beach. I have been on the internet for months looking for places to rent in the surrounding areas. It has really been fun!! I can't wait!!

Hey Dianna,

Where do you live now?

You're doing the right thing. I was thinking of moving to Dallas and we were going to rent before buying too.

If you have any questions on the area, just post them here in the forums.

Steve

I live in a TINY little town in Indiana. I grew up going to Florida every summer where my grandfather lived and fell in love with ocean air then and always said that someday, I'd live at the ocean and it is finally arriving.

You are thinking of Dallas?? No more Ocean? Must be a great challenge for you.
