The virginiabeach.com pay per click engine is designed to allow hotel operators to present their hotels to potential visitors to the Virginia Beach area. After signing up, advertisers will be allowed to add their hotel listings. Once funds have been deposited into the engine, the listing will begin to appear on the "Hotels" page of virginiabeach.com. Why would hotels want to do this? virginiabeach.com understands that hotels need to take advantage of the growing Internet Travel Industry. Travel agents take 10% of a booking. Whether that booking occurs on-line or not. virginiabeach.com has created a means for local hotels to bypass the travel agent fee and make the reservation through their own system, meaning more profit for hotels. Since hotels are only paying virginiabeach.com when a user clicks on their listings, they can expect a very high return on their advertising investment. Placement Placement in the hotel engine is based on the amount of the bid for that listing. The minimum listing is $.10/click. Higher bids will place listings higher in the engine. Also, listings are allowed to have a picture attached. If the listing is among the top 8 listings, a picture will be displayed. Other listings only have their link / URL / phone number / address line 1 displayed. Changes in bids are IMMEDIATELY translated to the position on the actual web site. Sales are down? Bid your hotel higher in the listing and get more traffic. At capacity? Bid your hotel lower and drop to the bottom of the list. All changes are effective instantly. Listings Listings should only contain a single hotel, and should not have links to other vacationing web sites. The hotel directory is for hotels explicitly. It is not to be used to advertise other hotel reservation sites. Depositing Funds At present funds are added manually by the site admins. How can I be sure that I'm actually getting traffic from Virginiabeach.com's hotels page? The best way to do this is to link your listing to a tracking URL on your site. A tracking URL is a page on your site which redirects immediately to the URL that you were linking to. When a user clicks in the hotel directory, they will be directed to the tracking URL, which will place an entry in your servers log.
