Get Educated on Virginia Beach Schools
16 Mar 2007 11:55 AM
It is not unusual for visitors of Virginia Beach to become residents.  Whether it is the attraction of the beautiful coastal environment, the family-friendly activities, or the overall quality of life in this Eastern Seaboard town, newcomers will not be disappointed with their new home.  Families, in particular, have their choice of some of the best schools in the state, with many accredited institutions located throughout the more populated neighborhoods.

Spending a bit of time at the official site of Virginia Beach Public Schools (http://www.vbschools.com) will offer all the statistics you need in order to have your little ones educated. Virginia Beach currently boasts over fifty elementary schools, fifteen middle schools, and fourteen high schools. For parents and other grown-ups seeking to further skills in various subjects, or to claim a GED, the city's Adult Learning Center is the place the start. Course schedules and admission information is available at http://www.adultlearning.vbschools.com/.

One advantage to pursuing a higher education in the area is that school isn't that far from the beach!  Schools days are always sunny days, allowing student to pursue the four Rs (reading, 'riting, 'rithmatic, and recreation) each semester.  One popular institution among high school grads and adults seeking second careers is the ECPI College of Technology (http://www.ecpi.edu).  Computer certification and Web design are featured in the curriculum on the main campus, with other branches of the college offering coursework in medical careers and culinary arts via their association with Johnson and Wales University.  Tidewater Community College, with campuses across Virginia Beach and other parts of Hampton Roads, offer tradition two-year degrees to student preparing for more
advanced certification.

While there are no public universities within the beach town's limits (the closest is Old Dominion University of Norfolk), higher education can be had close to the shore.  Regent University (http://www.regent.edu) is known not only for its association to founder Pat Robertson, but also for its law school and broadcast journalism programs, and Virginia Wesleyan College (http://www.vwc.edu) actually sits on the border of Norfolk and the beach. VWC is a smaller private college, still basking in the success of its basketball team taking last year's NCAA Division III championships.  This year, they have made the Final Four and just may repeat their success!

So if you enjoy a bit of history (or calculus or grammar or physics) with your beach excursion, you can rest assured this beach is brains and beauty.
