15 May 2007 10:37 AM Every year, the city of Hampton Roads hosts the annual Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival. Hampton Roads, Virginia is home to one of the largest military bases in the United States. The annual Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival is one of the many ways the city of Hampton Roads honors the proud military tradition of the community. The Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival helps to celebrate the sacrifices made by local active duty military, retired military, and their families. The Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival takes place every year around the first week of June. For three days, the community celebrates their strong military ties on the waterfront at Virginia Beach. The community celebrates these connections with a citywide celebration of concerts, events for the family, food, and military displays featuring all branches of the armed services. Live military drills and other military demonstrations are held along the beachfront all day for the duration of the Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival. Evening events, such as concerts are held at public venues along the waterfront and are always free of charge to the public. Evening concerts begin seating at five in the evening. The Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival usually hosts a wide variety of musicians and entertainers each year. Past artists have included the singing group Rascal Flatts, American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, music legends Lynyrd Skynyrd, and entertainers Sinbad and Wayne Newton. Entertainers scheduled for the 2007 Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival include Huey Lewis and the News, Gretchen Wilson, Jason Michael Carroll, and Sugar Ray. |
