Wing It To Virginia Beach For Some Spicey Chicken.

If anything can complement the tang of salty ocean air, it's a tall glass of cold beer and plate of spicy chicken wings, with sauce so thick it stains your fingers for days. Whether you like them barbecued or Buffalo style, grilled or fried, or coated with any of a myriad of exotic flavors, you'll find many area restaurants are guaranteed to satisfy your cravings.

Folks in Virginia Beach take chicken wings seriously – here it's more than just a halftime appetizer or a midnight snack. Where selecting sauce flavors is concerned, every palate is sophisticated and discerning, and if you have a particular favorite you know exactly where to go at the beach. For traditional Buffalo style, for example, the crowds still hit the Hooters off General Booth Blvd, where you can get them sauced regular or "Daytona style" (hot sauce without the skin). But if you don't wish to be distracted by the (ahem) scenery, there are other places around town to try:

Buffalo Beach Brothers - A relative newcomer to the Beach, Buffalo Beach has fast become a favored haunt for families, groups, and sports fans. Here you can enjoy as many as thirty wing sauces (Kentucky Bourbon and Salsa Ranch are among the popular unique tastes) in a smoke-free dining area as you watch the game on a big screen.

Frankie's Place for Ribs – Don't the let name fool you…this is also the place for spicy Buffalo wings. Beach locals voted Frankie's the Bronze award in this year's Virginian Pilot Readers' Poll for Best Wings, and if you can get past their succulent Onion Loaf appetizer you should definitely order a plate.

Lendy's Café and Raw Bar - The best wings on the beach? Well, at one time Lendy's had the best in the US, according to a nationwide wing competition. This local hotspot is known for serving up a near deadly plate of suicide wings, just a shade cooler than Hades on a summer's day!

From tangy teriyaki, pungent curry and peanut sauce, to just plain hot, Virginia Beach serves up some of the best wings on the East Coast.  Bring your appetite and don't be chicken about taking the heat.
