Spice it Up South of the Border in Virginia Beach
24 May 2007 11:13 AM
If you have a large brood to feed while on vacation at the beach, any of the area's Mexican restaurants are a good bet. The food is good and plentiful and reasonably priced, especially if you have a group of hungry kids in tow. While Cinco De Mayo can get busy around these area cantinas, the local favorites are no less crowded during the summer. So if you're in the mood for some spicy tacos, cheesy nachos, and a cold margarita, be sure to check out some of these cantinas calientes:

Tijuana Flats - A new addition to the Hilltop area, Tijuana Flats has a casual feel that well suits the colorful atmosphere and array of flavored hot sauces, each ranked according to heat level by smiling to sweating faces. Try a "wet" burrito (your choice of beef, chicken, or steak with salsa) or a quesadilla with a side of seasoned chips.

Guadalajara - Chick's Beach locals know that Guadalajara is one of the top spots to satisfy that late night taco craving. An extensive taco bar and frozen drinks menu, coupled with deck dining and live DJ on weekends, make this a must stop for night owls. Look for a thir
d location in Town Center later this summer!

Senor Iguanas - This Kempsville/Witchduck establishment is a favorite stop for lunch, and on weekends it jumps with live music and some of the best margaritas this side of Cancun. While you're there don't forget to say hello to Iggy, the iguana in residence.

So, after a day of playing in the surf and working up an appetite, and a plain old sandwich won't do,  try spicing up your next meal at any of the beach's great Mexican eateries. Ole!
