It's inevitable, once you come to a new town for a vacation, that you'll spend a good amount of time fiddling with the car radio. While exploring new territory, places to stay and eat, you're certain to want to keep the tunes coming. After all, you're at Virginia Beach, VA, and what goes better with surf and sand than your favorite music?

We know, however, the prospect of changing your presets may present a headache, so we won't ask you to do that. When you do come to Virginia Beach to stay, though, you'll be happy to know there is a variety of music and talk waiting to entertain you, whether out for a drive or hanging at the beach, or keeping you company on a morning run. Just use our handy guide to find your favorite style of music and keep the station on full blast. From classic jams to heavy metal to cool jazz, music lovers have a number of choices when it comes to local radio. Here's just a sampling of what you'll find:

WAFX – 106.9FM (http://www.wafx.com) is the local classic rock station, playing mainly staples from the 60s-70s, with a few 80s songs from favorites. Lots of Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Beatles, Rolling Stones, and bands of the same era.

WNOR – 98.7FM (http://www.fm99.com), the local new and alternative rock station recently tweaked their format a bit to include some classic rock in the mix. In the morning you can catch Tommy and Rumble, one of the more popular radio shows in the area, and bang your steering wheel in tune to the White Stripes, Tool, and other hard rockers.

WGH – 97.3FM (http://www.eagle97.com) plays the latest country hits, from Carrie Underwood to Big and Rich, to recent classics by favorites like Reba McIntire and Garth Brooks.

WNVZ – 104.5FM (http://www.z104.com) is the stop on the dial for Top 40 and pop, hip-hop, and urban hits. If it has a beat you can dance (or try to dance) to, chances are the Z is playing it.

WPYA – 93.7FM (http://www.bob-fm.com) is the station you listen to when you can't decide what you want to hear. The motto of Bob FM is "We play anything," and they're not kidding. This growing format, which "bobs" from song to song, is new to Virginia Beach. You may hear ABBA first, then Metallica, then Jimmy Buffett. Bob likes variety.

So don't forget to pack extra batteries if you're bringing a radio to the beach. The music will never run low. By the way, you'll hear VirginiaBeach.Com radio ads on most of these stations too.
