Memorial Day in Virginia Beach
It’s going to be a spectacular weekend as the city hosts a great Memorial Day festival that is sure to start the summer off right.
The Annual Salute to Summer
The festivities get rolling on the evening of Friday May 26, 2017 as Virginia Beach kicks off the holiday weekend with live music all along the ocean front at the Salute to Summer event.
With live entertainment on three outdoor stages including music from different styles and eras, there is something for everyone! Original essays written by local high school students are reproduced on four by eight foot banners easily read by passers-by along the "Heroes Walk". These essays describe the military conflicts in which the United States has been involved throughout history. They help to remind us of the price that has been paid and is still being paid today by the United States military.
Pungo Strawberry Festival
On the same weekend, The Pungo Strawberry Festival is going to draw in so many people like it has for the past 33 years! For the 2017 festival, it is estimated that 120,000 people will show up for this beloved VA Beach event.
The Strawberry Festival is a three day event (all day) with carnival rides, petting zoos, pony rides, and strawberries galore! There are loads of vendors here to sell all things strawberry as well as handmade crafts. The event is free and open to the public. If you haven't been to one of these festivals, you definitely should to see why people love coming to this popular attraction.
Don’t miss out on food, fun, and festivals this Memorial Day weekend in Virginia Beach.
