The beach is packed full of exciting events during the summer months. Read below for a list of 7 exciting ways to spend time in Virginia Beach in July.

1. Watch Fireworks for the Fourth of July 

This year, the Fourth of July will land on a Wednesday. There will be two fun ways to celebrate the Fourth at the beach! The Stars and Stripes Explosion is a popular Fourth of July event that includes live music and of course, fireworks. This event is free.

Check out the live performances of Stars and Stripes Explosion at the following stages on the boardwalk: 

  • On the beach at 24th Street
  • Dairy Queen Grill & Chill at 17th Street Park
  • 31st Street Park

If you want to celebrate the Fourth away from the boardwalk, you can visit the Mount Trashmore Park which is just right up the road. Bring a blanket to lay out and watch the fireworks on top of Mount Trashmore. There will be live music here as well as delicious food! This Fourth of July Celebration at Mount Trashmore Park starts at 4:00 pm and ends at 10:00 pm. This event is $10.

2. Chalk the Walk Artsplosion

This beautiful Virginia Beach event invites you to check out popping art that is located right under your nose! Watch talented artists display works of art right onto the Boardwalk. This popular spectacle will have themes that are sure to excite the whole family! In the past there have been skilled drawings with themes of Harry Potter, Disney characters, familiar TV characters, and more!

Be sure to check out Chalk the Walk Artsplosion on the Boardwalk at 16th Street through 18th Street on Saturday, July 7th. 

3. Hot Concerts All Month Long

This July, Virginia Beach will host so many musical performances!

This month be sure to check out pefomances by:

  • Lynard Skynard's Farewell Tour (with Cheap Trick)
  • Vans Warped Tour (Farewell Tour)
  • Chris Brown (with H.E.R. and Rich the Kid)

4. The Family Great Adventure Series

One of the best family friendly events in Virginia Beach is the Family Great Adventure Series. This event is a two part happening. The first portion of this fun-filled family event is an interactive game/scavenger hunt. Each family will participate in a game in order to win a prize. The games are different during these Adventure Series, so you won't know what to expect until the day of the event. The directions of the games will be explained to all participating families before the games begin. After the game is over, everyone is invited to sit down, relax, and watch a family-friendly movie on the big screen on the beach. Get comfy and bring pillows and blankets!

Dates of The Family Great Adventure Series:

  • July 5
  • July 12
  • July 19
  • July 26

Games start at 6:00 pm. Movie starts at 8:30 pm. If you do not wish to participate in the game, but only come for the movie, you are welcome to do so!

5. Treasures Of The Earth: Gem, Mineral, and Jewelry Show

If you love all things unique and beautiful, you want to be at this event! This weekend long event will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. You will see items here that you have never seen before! This event is family friendly. There will even be fossils to take a look at. The items that you will see here range from interesting pieces to highly expensive gems! It starts on Friday, July 20th at Noon and ends on Sunday, July 22th at 5:00PM. You don’t want to miss this event because they won’t be back until October. Feast your eyes on Treasures Of The Earth during this rare experience! Tickets are only $5.

6. Eat The Streets 757

This foodie experience is great for people who like to eat the freshest foods from the locals! Bring your appetite to this event. Eat The Streets 757 will take place at the Mount Trashmore Park. This food truck series starts on Sunday, July 29th as a part of their “SUNday FUNday Series.” It begins at noon and lasts until 4:00 pm. 7 - 9 food trucks are promised to be at this delicious event.

You can make a day of this event by bringing a blanket, sit out in the shade, and lounge at the park! Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Mount Trashmore Park. 

7. Captain Jack’s Pirate Adventures

Captain Jack's Pirate Ship has so much to offer! Scoot around the ocean like a pirate on the ship known as The Lost Pearl! Set sail on one of their Family Friendly Adventures or a Club 21+ Cruise. There is something for every type of vacationer. If you’re wanting the Family Friendly Adventure, you will endure a captivating pirate show, learn how to dance like a pirate, sing pirate songs, and possibly sight some dolphins! Pricing is $25 and under! The Club 21+ Cruise includes pirate skits that are raunchy and scandalous- just what a pirate would want! This Club 21+ Adventure is not for the faint of heart. And of course, you can’t be out at sea without the RUM! The rum is never gone at the Club 21+ Adventure Cruise… Dance the night away at sea on your next VA Beach getaway with Captain Jack’s Pirate Adventures.
