In the words…“With an oceanfront like Virginia Beach, you really ought to try sand soccer!” the idea for the Virginia Beach Sand Soccer Tournament was born. The very first sand soccer event in the area happened in 1994 and saw over 26 teams of both adults and children participating. Anyone who enjoys the sun on their shoulders, the sand under their feet, and the crash of waves while they play, should look into this event!
This event runs through the beginning of June. The VA Sand Soccer Event is one of the country’s biggest summer sporting events. This coming year’s events are expecting 10,000 participants in the soccer games, with over 35,000 people coming to watch. This is certainly good for the area’s economy. With so many people showing up for the event, you know it’s going to be a fun one. The Virginia Beach Sand Soccer Tournament has been selected by the Tourism Society as one of the top 20 events of summer, so it is sure not to disappoint. A big draw is the Men’s pro/am cash division’s three-day competition, which sees players from all over the world attempting to win the United States National Championships.
Is soccer not your thing?
You can still come be a part of the event by watching some of the other popular sports such as flag football, beach wrestling, beach tennis, and volleyball. There is so much to do and see you can’t possibly take a time out with all of the excitement going round. There will be celebrity guests and fireworks, as well as movies on the beach, and of course, the ever-popular boardwalk. There are many rules in the Virginia Beach Sand Soccer Tournament, which can change yearly and are posted on the organization’s official website. Everything from the basics of how to score a point, to the details of fouls and penalties are explained. Also available on their website is a detailed history of the event as well as the previous year’s results and photo galleries.
The Virginia Beach Sand Soccer Tournament just keeps growing bigger every year. Make this coming summer one of the best yet by visiting Virginia Beach and taking part in the competition, or by rooting on your favorite team players in the games.
